Bob Beamon
October 18, 1968 – Summer Olympics. You might not believe that this gentleman did not have a springboard at hand. Bob Beamon of American track and field legend becomes a human-sized grasshopper as he soars 8.9 meters past any previous record. This superhuman jump was witnessed during Mexico City’s 1968 Summer Olympics. From that point onward, any jump that even resembled this one would be known as ‘Beamonesque’. Beamon’s record would not be broken until 1991
Ron Turcotte Aboard Secretariat
June 9, 1971 – Belmont Stakes. The magnificent horse called Secretariat carries Ron Turcotte along at high speeds at this 1973 shot of that year’s Belmont Stakes race. Turcotte took a nervous peek behind to see if anyone was on his tail. The jockey and racehorse partnership would take a 31 lengths victory with a time of 2:24, making this the biggest gap between the lead and followers ever seen in horse racing. This victory brought the Triple Crown horse to a pioneering victory, the initial in a quarter of a century.
