Sofia Villani Scicolone was safely delivered on September 20, 1934, in Rome, Italy’s Clinica Regina Margherita. Loren survived World War II, with her city having been bombed frequently. Once the war ended, Loren took on Miss Italia in 1950 at the age of 14. She won the “Miss Elegance 1950” title but not the overall crown, which went to Anna Maria Bugliari, the Miss Italia for that year. Loren would then go on to become a film actress.
