Whether you are looking for meat options, vegetarian or vegan options, or even gluten-free options, believe it or not, you can find a delicious and easy solution for all of those dietary requirements – served on a stick (or skewers to be more precise)! If you are looking for a sweet treat too, then skews can provide the solution for that course of the meal too!

Starting from the meat- Chicken kabab anyone? Just use a thick-handled skewer so that it is easier to soak in water first which will help avoid burning them during cooking. Season with some paprika, or Cajun, or some rosemary and thyme, or rub with some garlic and salt, and boom, you have yourselves a treat in just a few minutes! The same goes with ground beef. Make them into mini-meatballs with your favorite seasoning, cumin and garlic is a good easy option, fit onto the skew, pop it on the grill and you’re sorted. Hot dogs are another simple and easy skewer option, also fun if you are trying to involve your kids in the cooking process.
If you are going for the veggie option, you can also make a skew of fresh vegetables such as cherry tomatoes, carrots, and olives, or you can grill some veggies on a skewer too. A great combination is halved or quartered mushrooms, eggplant cubes (these have to be relatively small if you don’t cook them first separately), some onion (red onion is even better, but not necessary), tomatoes (halved or quartered), and zucchini cubes. Of course, that is only a recommendation and you can up the antics with some sweet potatoes or whatever else rocks your boat!

For dessert you can either grill some skewered marshmallows or put some fresh fruit on the skew, where the colors and shapes all lined up on the stick just waiting to be eaten, will make it look even more tempting and appetizing! Another suggestion that can seriously upgrade all the savory options is adding some dipping sauces to go along with the skews. Blue cheese, ketchup, mayo, sweet and sour, chili cheese, or hummus, can really add punch to those skewered bites. And if you really want to upgrade those sweet options, you can melt some dark chocolate as a dipping sauce for those, really taking it to another level.
