You may know of WD-40 as a dissolver you have around the house in order to loosen the occasional rusty screw or stop a door squeaking on its hinges. Well, we are here to tell you that WD-40 has many more magical uses – from getting chewing gum out of your hair to making sure no furry imposters scare away the birds from the bird feeder. WD-40 is such a versatile and handy product that new uses for it keep coming up. Similar to duct tape, it is another one of those things that its creators had no clue how useful it would be to its creative consumers.
Most people don’t know how this versatile product got its name. Norm Larsen, the creator of WD-40, was aiming to create a water displacement product in 1953, hence the “WD” for “water displacement”. The “40” represents the fact that it is the 40th formula! So there you have it, the story behind the name. Oh, and last fun fact, it is created and produced in San Diego, California, like so many other pretty awesome things.
It’s probably safe to say that most of us have no idea what goes into WD-40 to make it such a wonder product… But does that really matter? What we do know is that it is a wonder multi-use product with uses that keep on coming. So all we really need to know is that it works and is reliable.
So listen to us when we tell you that whether you are a school-teacher or a motorcyclist enthusiast, a world traveler or a rare automobile collector, a carpenter or a cyclist, WD-40 is your best friend and will come in handy in more ways than one. Even if you already know the product, trust us when we tell you that you haven’t even begun to discover the endless benefits of this magical “lubricant”. Most of these ideas might surprise you, but as the saying goes, don’t knock it until you try it!
