The scandalous show’s cast admits that they lied about living in Alaska. The Brown family confessed in 2015 that they had been receiving government grants as a result of their lies. Both Billy Brown and Joshua “Bam Bam” Brown were each found guilty of second-degree unsworn falsification. There have also been controversies about whether the family actually lives in the bush or not, as it has been claimed that in between shooting the family actually lives in comfortable hotels and that their cabin was actually built by locals and not ‘with their bare hands’ as they claimed.

It was thought that tragic gun-related incidents such as the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting were the reason Discovery decided to cancel American Guns, but they insisted that the show was not canceled, just that they had chosen not to renew it. There were no plans to air reruns, in spite of the last episode being aired in 2012.
