Nixon made a powerful speech back in 1972, approving the Space Shuttle Program, which prompted manufacturing companies to hit the track in creating the first machine. However, the race to send off the first device to space was halted after the first shuttle (created in 1982) failed to launch in 1988.

Area 51 is not new to strange happenings, especially after this photo surfaced, showing officials putting a UFO onto a truck. It turned out the UFO crashed, but the reason for this was not known at the time. However, some people concluded it was a device owned by the U.S. Air Force that they used to test weather patterns.
