Cold Mountain, adapted from the same-named book, depicts the story of an injured Confederate troop defector who came back at the close of the conflicts in the War to reconnect with their loved one. The personalities are made up, but the setting and the story itself are based on actual events in history.

The movie also receives high reviews for its depiction of the experiences of other sectors in the community during that dark time of conflict. Not many in the production team were expecting much from the movie, and it was a welcomed surprise how people received the movie.
