Tiki Gelana

August 5, 2012, at the London Olympics. Pictured is Kenyan Priscah Jeptoo, who completed her London Olympics 2012 effort with the silver medal. She came in five seconds after Ethiopia’s Tiki Gelana in one of the most fiercely contested women’s marathons ever. Once the race ended, Jeptoo dropped to her knees in what seems like a combination of exhaustion and prayer. After a brutal slog like this one, the cold, wet ground feels like a bed for the gassed athletes.

Gordon Hayward

NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship game – 2010: Duke vs. Butler. Gordon Hayward, considered the star of Butler, was given a show-stopping chance to turn things around when the score was 61-59 to Duke and the buzzer was seconds away from blasting. Sadly for Gordon and Butler, his impressive-looking throw bounced off the backboard and then the rim noisily and disappointingly. Duke walked away with the victory and Hayward with a bruised ego. This would be title number four for the winning team.
