The environment in which he was raised spelled everything religious, and his mother suggested his upbringing was under the guidance of a zealot. She was out of school for most of her life and spent many open hours with her mother at Studio 54, where the parties were endless. Before long, she was addicted to drugs, alcohol and was hanging out in bad company. When Barrymore was only 13 she had already been a star since she was a very young child, and things were spiraling out of control, and her mother checked her into a rehabilitation center to treat her addictions, where she spent a year and a half. This was an experience she found to be life-changing. Thankfully, Barrymore kept herself together and managed to make it past the hardest of times.
