Tracey was shocked at being spoken to so cruelly, despite this not having been the first time that Gina had made some unflattering comments. Despite her sporadic attempts to reach out to Tracey, Gina was mostly critical and demeaning towards her future daughter-in-law. All that Tracey wished for was for the two to reach a peaceful and agreeable understanding. If Gina would never grow to love Tracey, at the very least she could pretend to.

It all came down to a very apparent disapproval of Tracey and Rick’s devotion to each other from Gina. If Rick was not going to heed his mother’s advice, then she would do her best to mould Tracey into an appropriate wife for her precious son. Nothing was ever good enough. Another obvious objective of Gina’s was her wish to hammer Tracey into the kind of partner considered appropriate for Rick.
