The US Government was always in a bid to overtake the Soviets, and as such, they came up with a lot of different projects, some of which were successful while others failed. One of the most famous was “Project Iceworm,” which involved the development of an underground nuclear-powered research plant (Greenland). This allowed them to travel across 2,500 miles in underground tunnels as they transported their missiles from one border to the next.
