Heading Back To School As a Priority
After the success of the cover, Shannon decided that she wanted to pursue modeling full-time and ended up being honorably discharged following four years of service with the marines. Her first priority was to complete a degree, as had always been the plans, so she enrolled to graduate from Elmhurst College with a bachelor’s degree in marketing. Her plan had come together, and she could finish college without an ounce of debt. Now with a degree by her side, some modeling experience and four years of being in the marines, she was set up for a successful career that could be undertaken on her own terms and at her own pace.
Shannon’s Big Break
While she was studying, Shannon made it a priority to keep pursuing any new modeling opportunities. Chicago’s top rock radio station held their annual “Loop Rock Girl” competition in her first year of studies, and she ended up entering and winning the competition. The win would result in the station asking her to stay on permanently as the “Loop Rock Girl”, which turned what was meant to be a quick competition into a full-time job overnight. Talk about a big break!
