That report was untrue since the pair are still openly talking with each other and would even hang out after doing their takes in the shooting.

Dobrev actually quit because she “understood” she only intended her persona to experience a “six-season experience” and nothing more. She believed that Elena, her on-screen persona, had reached the end of her story, and she opted to leave the program triumphant, which fans accepted and understood. Many people considered this to be a very mature decision.
