City Of God
The Brazilian movie “City of God,” which was released in 2003, received worldwide acclaim. It is founded on the semi-memoir book of a similar title by author Paulo Lins (who also wrote the book Golden Gate). The book chronicles the growth of systematic criminal operations in the streets of the capital city of Brazil amidst its erratic political and economic situation.
The storyline is recounted from the perspectives of two young men, one of whom becomes a photojournalist and the other one a gangster. The one who made the book was confident in his narrative since he had with him firsthand accounts of the place where he himself grew up from.
