Anya Taylor-Joy plays Beth Harmon, a young orphan (Peaky Blinders, The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance). As a nine-year-old, she is already being touted as something of a “chess prodigy.” She joins the chess championship circuit right once, and rapidly finds that winning has both perks and cons. She quickly realizes that winning has both advantages and disadvantages. The book was written by Walter Tevis, and it was adapted into a television series in 1983.
