It was on November 30, 1955, that Tony DeMarco hit the canvas after Carmen Basilio smashed his opponent out of consciousness. Basilio then took the welterweight title after 12 grueling rounds with DeMarco. The ecstatic Basilio is pictured being embraced midair by his coaches while DeMarco’s team tries their best to revive their fallen competitor. This magnificently angled shot, with the dramatically unconscious DeMarco being cradled by a concerned coach makes for an epically spectacular composition.
