Jacques Plante
December 18, 1957 – Canadiens at Rangers. Jacques Plante, the goalie for the Montreal Canadiens, puts his teeth on the line as he scans the rink while the rest of his team furiously skirmishes with the New York Rangers. This game took place at Madison Square Garden, with a strangely sedated crowd looking on blankly. Plante would soon become a lot more safety-conscious, however, becoming the initial goalie in the NHL to begin donning a goaltender mask regularly.
John Havlicek and Chet Walker
April 15, 1965, at the Eastern Conference Finals. John Havlicek capitalized on his team, the Boston Celtics’ 110-109 lead as this guard swooped in and snatched the ball passed by a member of the Philadelphia 76ers. Havlicek then rushed to dunk the final hoop that would seal the win for the Celtics. This then opened the way for the Celtics’ eventual NBA Finals victory in five games’ time against the Lakers. An interception like this one is hard to find in NBA history.
