Italian-Tunisian actress Claudia Cardinale’s career really began when she won first place in the “Most Beautiful Italian Girl in Tunisia” competition. The competition took her to Italy, where she struggled with the language because her parents spoke Sicilian which is different from Italian, but her beauty got her various acting and modeling roles over the years. During the early years, in particular, her voice was dubbed over because of her accent and husky voice. Today, Cardinale is known for speaking out for women’s rights and, in the year 2000, became a UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador for the cause.
