Independence Day
Despite the fact that Martina McBride’s 1994 hit “Independence Day” has become a cult classic for the Fourth of July celebration, the song was about an entirely distinct kind of independence. The story of the song talks about a woman who’s ultimately able to escape her spouse following years of familial abuse. As a result, rather than a nation winning independence and freedom, it is actually a lady who’s able to completely escape from a dreadful circumstance.
Bad Reputation
This Joan Jett hit may appear to be simply another unhappy adolescent anthem. They do, however, speak about the many sex roles as well as forms that the industry of music throws women in, as well as her utter reluctance to adapt to them (despite being refused by 23 record firms!). According to Kathleen Kennedy, a historian, Joan Jett wrote the lyrics as some form of rebellious response to what Jett perceived to be disparate norms of behaviour imposed to rock musicians of both genders.
