While the zoo’s ban would make sense to most of us, Timmermans was heartbroken and distressed. In an interview with ATV, a Belgian news channel, Timmermans strongly maintained that she and Chita were meant to be. You might wonder why Timmermans could not understand why this relationship was highly inappropriate. You see, this was an incredibly lonely woman, who didn’t have anyone else in her life but her chimp lover. She could not understand why the zoo had decided to be so cruel and stop the two from hanging out. She might have believed that their time together was completely innocent, but the zookeepers knew better.

Timmermans believed that the ban was especially unfair considering that other zoo visitors could still visit Chita. Of course, these visitors didn’t cross the natural line, but try telling Timmermans that! If the heartbroken red-haired woman was aware of the damage that she had caused in Chita’s social life, she certainly didn’t seem to care. To her, all that matters is that the love of her life was taken away from her forever. Some people need some serious therapy…
