And so, Chita and his human girlfriend were separated for good. But how did Chita fare now that the normal natural balance had been restored in the enclosure? Would his chimp buddies forgive him for stepping out of line, or was Chita going to be branded as a freak for the rest of his life? Tragically, the zoo’s representatives believe that Chita will be permanently treated as an outcast. What had led Chita to this unusual point?

Chita’s Story
You might be wondering why Chita, out of all the other chimps in his enclosure, was so friendly with Timmermans. Chita was once a pet, you see, who had been in contact with humans for most of his life. So, unlike the other chimps in his enclosure, he had already warmed up to humans. At one stage in Chita’s development, when he became too intense to handle, he was donated to the zoo where our story took place.
