As it turns out, Scarlett did not know that Murray was going to lean in for the kiss, especially as it wasn’t a part of the script to begin with. The peck became a sweet moment capping off the relationship the viewers had seen unfold onscreen, so director Sofia Coppola decided that she wanted to keep it in the final cut. Critics agree that Scarlett’s reaction made it even better!
