According to Nunez, the scene was meant to conclude with an embrace. Scott Carrell later shared that he wanted to kiss his co-star on the lips to show the world he was an LGBT ally, especially as he realised this would be a big moment for a show that had millions of weekly viewers. When Nunez realised Carrell was going in for a kiss, he stayed in character, and the rest was comedy gold.

As the story goes, Cruise’s character was stuck in a time loop and had to experience the day before he dies in battle repeatedly. During the course of the story, he gets assistance from a special forces fighter called Rita Vrataski, portrayed by Emily Blunt. When you are facing death on a daily basis, you want to get some kind of break!
