Not one to sit back and wait for life to happen to her, Shannon decided to research for all the different branches of the military to get a better sense of what might she may be better suited to. The Marine Corps caught her eye right away, especially once she talked to a recruiter at fair a short while later. It’s safe to say that Shannon was a little out of place at the recruitment fair, mostly because she doesn’t look like your typical military recruit. Irrespective of this, she learned as much as she could that day, and felt instantly that the Marine Corps would be a good possibility for her to explore.

As it turns out, the Marine Corps recruiter took one look at Shannon and told her that there was no way that she would be able to make it. He told her that boot camp was double as hard as the other branches and that he couldn’t imagine a girl making it through. Never one to shy away from a challenge, and with an inherent need to prove naysayers wrong, Shannon decided to sign up on the spot. As it turns out, and once she experienced boot camp, she realized just how hard it was, even residing herself to the fact that this certainly wasn’t something that was suited to everyone.
