Home Is Where The Heart Is
As time went on, Shannon was transferred to Rock Island in Illinois, which was a blessing, as it allowed her to be a short distance away from her home, friends and family. A big challenge for many military professionals is that they have to spend an extended period of time away from their loved ones. Being stationed so close to her family meant that she was around for a lot of milestones in their lives. Continuing to excel while in Illinois, she spent two years getting better at her job, and taking any opportunity to show the rest of her peers what a great Marine is made of.
Shannon’s First Promotion
Twenty four months after joining her unit, Shannon landed her first promotion, from E1 to E4. Ascending from private, to private first class, all the way to lance corporal across the span of only two years, she was on a path to greatness that many others can only dream of. Typically, this type of trajectory took closer to four years to achieve. With that big change came a new set of responsibilities, including learning skills to develop her leadership capabilities. Often on inspector-instructor duty, this was but one part of the wide range of duties that turned Shannon into the strong and independent woman that she is today.
