By the turn of 2016, Shannon had been promoted to the rank of sergeant, a great honor for anyone in the Marine Corps. This was a major feat, and a clear indication of the blood, sweat and tears that had gone into her work, especially in the wake of criticism based on early judgments around how she looks. She showed up and proved to her male counterparts that she was an equal. Four years into her military service, Shannon was starting to realize that she wanted to try out other things. The first was to pursue the completion of her college qualification that started the entire process.
