Roberto Clemente
June 16, 1972 – Padres at Pirates. Roberto Clemente of the Pittsburgh Pirates game focuses on the ball with laser prediction as it leaves the pitcher on the San Diego Padres’ side. The Pirates would end up taking the win with a 2-1 final score. Clemente would tragically lose his life when an airplane he had taken plummeted from the sky in December of that year. This photograph shows Clemente in his final season of play.

Julie Leparoux and Sanibel Storm
April 28, 2006, at the Keeneland Race Course. The flying Julien Leparoux desperately attempts to keep a fleeting grip on his saddle’s bridle. The jockey was launched from his seating when his horse, Sanibel Storm, slammed into a rail throughout a particularly dangerous stretch run. Thankfully, neither suffered any injuries, even if it seemed like Leparoux was hurtling into a hospital bed. As for the cameraman and the surrounding media, they all managed to dodge the flying jockey.
