June 29, 1941 – Yankees at Senators. Joe DiMaggio of Yankees fame knocks a ball through the air during the AL MVP season of 1941 to the horror of the Washington Senators players. You can bet that any team that went against DiMaggio would see its players quaking in their boots. His .357 hit track resulted in a 125 RBI for that year along with 30 home runs. Few pitchers could throw a ball past Joe’s phenomenal swinging ability.

Tommie Smith and John Carlos

October 16, 1968 – Summer Olympics. John Carlos in third place and Tommie Smith in first were sprinters for the American team that took an opportunity during their stand at the podium during the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico City to show their support for the Black Power movement. This brave act resulted in the bronze medalist Carlos and gold medalist Smith being ousted from the competition for what was deemed to be a too controversial political stunt.
